The Final Plague

The Final Plague

Of the ten plagues Moses called down upon Egypt, the first 9 had little if any impact upon the Israelites. The final plague however, not only impacted the House of Israel, but a meditative study will reveal its applicability today.

As you know the final plague was the destroying angel going forth at the stroke of midnight to kill the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from human to animal, Israelite and Egyptian.

The Lord gave Israel and anyone else who cared to listen, a list of instructions for how to avoid death. This is another way of saying the Lord gave mankind the Rules of Engagement for living.

1. The Calendar was to be changed.

  • Thus the first month of the Jewish calendar, or the Passover month is in the spring.
  • The Savior was crucified in the spring and the Savior was born in the spring.
  • The beginning of every New Year now points to the Savior.

2. Take a male lamb without defect.

  • The Lord is the Lamb of God—perfect.
  • Take upon yourself the Lord, Jesus Christ.

3. Take care of the lamb for five days.

  • This allows each family time to know the lamb.
  • The family sacrifices a member of the family.

4. The bones of the lamb must not be broken.

  • In similitude of the crucifixion.

5. As a family, spill the blood of the lamb together.

  • Since each of us sin, the blood of the Savior was spilt for all of us.

6. Take some blood and put it on the top and both sides of the doorframe.

  • Absolute devotion to the Savior.
  • We come and go with honor and in the name of the Lord.
  • Our homes are dedicated to the Lord and they are holy places.
  • No unclean thing shall enter our home.
  • No corrupt thing shall leave it.

7. Eat the flesh of the lamb.

  • The Last Supper and the Sacrament emblems.

8. Remove all the yeast from the house.

  • Leaven = wickedness

9. Eat unleavened bread, or bread without yeast.

  • Remove the bad leaven and eat the bread.
  • At a later date, when the Savior introduced the Last Supper, He commanded us to put leaven into our lives in similitude of Him.

10. Eat bitter herbs.

  • The introduction of conflict and the importance of resolving it.
  • Life will not always be sweet and without strife.

11. Be ready in a moment’s notice to act on the word of the Lord.

  • The Lord’s people are a prepared people.
  • If ye are prepared, ye shall not worry.

12. Obey this ordinance with exactness.

  • What does it mean to obey with exactness?
  • Think about keeping the Sabbath Day holy with exactness.
  • Or any of the Temple covenants.

13. The Lamb saves Israel by saving each family.

  • By saving yourself first, you are positioned to save others.
  • If you are not prepared, you will be getting saved, maybe.
  • If you are prepared, you will be saving others, because you are already saved.

In which position do you want to experience the events leading up to the 2nd Coming?

  1. Since your last post, I have been having a GREAT time studying passover observance of this event. (And not just canonic scriptural account) I’ve felt strengthened by the symbolism here, and my heart has been turned a bit more to Christ. Thanks again for turning me on to this and rekindling this topic of study for me.

  2. Also, I found a new type of Christ as the one who facilitates our traversal of the three degrees of glory in the leaven. The Jewish calendar pointing to Christ is something that I’ve been interested in for years. Thanks again for stirring these thoughts.
